Tt and Cc and numbers 1-6

This week in small group with kindergarten we will be learning the letters...

We will practice correct letter formation of Tt and Cc.  We will have a fun writing activity that involves shaving cream!  I am looking forward to it and I really think the kids will love it.  Students will sort objects that begin with the letters Tt and Cc.  The letter tubs really come in handy for this activity.  We will definitely review letters Mm and Bb too!  Toward the end of the week we will be working on hearing rhyming words such as clock & sock, frog & dog, and bee & key.  Please review the letters and rhyming words with your child at home.

In math we will be focusing on numbers 1-6.  Students will be expected to roll a dice, count the dots, and then match it to the correct number.  Students will have number cards 1-6 to reference to.  The example below shows you cards 1-4.

Have your child practice counting pennies or beans at home.  Make sure they are touching one item as they count in order.  Have him identify numbers 1-6 and put number cards in sequential order.

Here is a fun video by Barbara Milne!  Click on the picture below to sing along with your child as he counts 1-10!  Have fun!

Learning the Alphabet!

Hello!

I can't express how much I enjoy getting to know my Kindergarten Littles.  It is important for me to teach to the whole child.  Building a trusting relationship from the start is a surefire way to help children succeed.  It's been a busy, but very fun week indeed!

In my classroom this week we have been working on the letters, Mm and Bb.  My kindergarten students are really excited to explore objects that start with these letters and then sort them by their beginning sound.  We have been using letter tubs like these to make learning fun and hands-on!

We will be learning 2-3 letters a week.  I will always post what letters we are working on so you can review them with your child.  This is a great way to build the school home connection and build your child's confidence by showing interest in what they are learning at school!

Click on the picture below and it will take you to YouTube where your child can view and listen to the Apple Apple Aaa Song by Barbara Milne.  It's a catchy peaceful tune your child is sure to love!

Please check back at the start of the week to get a preview of what we will be learning in reading and math!
